THE SANCTUARY

Image A single church The Shrine of Madonna del Rosario is one of the major centres of Marian devotion in Italy. Started on 8 May 1876 on a design by Antonio Cua and completed in 1891, was later expanded in 1933-39 on a project by Ing. Monsignore Spirito Chiappetta. The Sanctuary has the title of the Pontifical Basilica and 'headed by a delegate Pontifical, assisted by a Board of Directors. The interior, rich in marble, frescoes and mosaics, and 'a Latin cross with three naves with great dome (57 meters) on 4 pillars, transept with 3 aisles and deambulatorio around the presbytery.

Image You enter through the back door Central Basilica, passes under the monumental and rich choir operates the 'architect. John Rispoli, with beautiful carvings, home to one of the best bodies, manufactured by the Cav. Pacific Inzoli of Cream and inaugurated on May 8, 1890. It was subsequently enlarged. On 'Altar veneratissima greater and the Madonna of Pompeii, seventeenth-century painting, the school of Luca Giordano, restored in 1965, adorned with gems and enclosed within a rich bronze frame; surrounded by Mysteries of the Rosary, paintings on copper by Vincenzo Paliotti . The small chapels side of the temple are dedicated to the Saints particularly venerated at the shrine, in the vault (basin) have represented the mysteries of the Rosary mosaic made by the Vatican School.
